Professional Development and Training: Upcoming Training
|
The Royal Children’s Hospital, Flemington Road Parkville PEDS is an accurate, reliable tool for providing developmental and behavioural screening and ongoing surveillance in children from birth through to eight years of age. The PEDStool helps with early detection of developmental delays, which can lead to significant improvement in child outcomes. PEDS also assists in reducing over referral of children.
PEDS is also a valuable parent engagement tool in that it ensures true collaboration between parent and provider and emphasises a focus on families that is consistent with promoting parents as true participants in their child’s care and education.
PEDS Training:
The PEDS training is designed to provide a broad range of practitioners with the resources required to use the PEDS tool as well as the knowledge and skills required to use this tool in a collaborative way with parents. Understanding of the PEDS tool as a method to engage parents in their child development are also explored.
This half day session will provide participants with an opportunity to understand what PEDS is, as well as the opportunity to understand and explore the administration of the PEDS tool and the role PEDS plays in helping the early detection of developmental delays.

What is an outcomes-based approach? How do we develop an evaluation plan with a partnership approach?
An outcomes-based approach brings a focus to desired outcomes - ‘what change or impact is wanted and works backwards to develop strategies- ways to bring about this change.. The advantages of an outcomes-based approach include being clear on the outcomes sought, selecting strategies that are likely to produce positive outcomes, and being able to measure the impact of services and how these have or haven’t shown progress towards the expected outcomes. This two-day interactive course will introduce participants to an outcomes-based approach to planning and evaluating community initiatives.
